The Deputy Communications Director plays a key role in advancing the Florida Hospital Association's communications, public affairs, media relations, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement efforts. This position serves as a strategic communications partner to the Vice President of Communications and helps develop and execute initiatives that support FHA's mission, policy priorities, and reputation among members, policymakers, media, and the public.
The Deputy Communications Director leads the development of compelling communications strategies and content across multiple channels, cultivates media relationships, supports executive communications, and collaborates with internal teams to ensure consistent and effective messaging. This role combines strategic planning with hands-on execution and requires a strong writer, skilled communicator, and proactive relationship builder who can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Reports to the Vice President of Communications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic Communications- Partner with the Vice President of Communications to develop and implement communication strategies that support FHA's advocacy, policy, membership, and organizational priorities.
- Help shape key messages and positioning on healthcare, legislative, regulatory, and public policy issues.
- Provide strategic communications counsel to internal stakeholders and project teams.
- Develop communications plans for campaigns, initiatives, events, and organizational priorities.
- Identify opportunities to increase awareness of FHA, its member hospitals and health systems, and key healthcare issues.
- Develop and execute proactive media relations strategies to promote FHA initiatives and policy priorities.
- Build and maintain relationships with healthcare, business, political, and trade media.
- Serve as a day-to-day media contact and coordinate responses to media inquiries.
- Draft press releases, media advisories, statements, opinion pieces, and pitch materials.
- Monitor media coverage and emerging issues affecting Florida hospitals and healthcare providers.
- Support rapid response communications and reputational management efforts as needed.
- Draft talking points, speeches, presentations, remarks, op-eds, letters, and other executive communications materials.
- Support messaging and communications preparation for FHA leadership, board meetings, member events, legislative meetings, and public appearances.
- Ensure messaging remains consistent across audiences, issues, and communication channels.
- Lead development of high-quality content for member communications, advocacy campaigns, publications, newsletters, websites, and social media platforms.
- Translate complex healthcare and policy topics into clear, engaging, and audience-focused communications.
- Review and edit communications materials to ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency, and alignment with FHA messaging.
- Collaborate with staff across departments to develop and promote organizational initiatives.
