Position: Fall 2026 Preferred Communities Intern - UNPAID
Location: Tallahassee

Scope of PC Casework Intern Work

The major goal of the Preferred Communities (PC) program is to support refugee and ORR-eligible populations with challenging needs that require special attention, including those with serious medical conditions, women at risk, and elderly refugees. Clients are mainly received from Reception and Placement (R&P), Matching Grant or DCF including walk‑in clients. This position requires a minimum commitment of 15 hours a week for at least three months.

The hours for this position are flexible; however, will primarily be between 9 AM and 5 PM on weekdays, with occasional weekend activities. Please note that all internship positions are unpaid. This is a hybrid role.

Responsibilities
  • Help with document management, including scanning and filing documents
  • Complete data entry and note‑taking tasks
  • Assist clients with developing their problem‑solving skills, empowering them to handle situations independently and supporting their self‑sufficiency
  • Accompany caseworkers to appointments and support them with service delivery
  • Adhere to all IRC work ethics while serving clients
  • Collaborate effectively with caseworkers, staff and external community providers partnered with the program
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and special staff development programs

  • Creativity and initiative to follow through on projects
  • Strong desire to help people and enthusiasm for working in a multi‑cultural setting
  • Strong technical skills
  • Submit volunteer hours on volunteer dashboard

The internship will be filled on a rolling basis. We will continue to accept applications until August 14, 2026, or until the position is filled, whichever occurs first. Internship will begin the week of September 8, 2026. This position reports to the ICM Caseworker.
