Job Summary and Qualifications

The Trauma Performance Improvement (PI) Coordinator works in collaboration with Trauma Medical Director (TMD) and Trauma Program Director (TPD) to coordinate all aspects of the Trauma Department’s Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) Program. The Trauma PI Coordinator conducts performance reviews of the continuum of care from the prehospital setting to hospital discharge and determines compliance with patient care practice management guidelines, policies, procedures, and established standards of care.

The Trauma PI Coordinator possesses in-depth knowledge of chart abstraction and the trauma registry, including reporting, data analysis, trend identification and benchmarking of outcomes based upon the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma (COT), as well as state and regional standards and recommendations for quality and maintenance for trauma center verification/re-verification and local/State designation.

Your role will include:

  • Coordinates Performance Improvement activities with the Trauma Medica Director (TMD) and Trauma Program Director (TPD) to facilitate overall Trauma Program quality assurance.
  • Assists the TMD and TPD with identifying adverse events and implementing subsequent action plans, measurable through patient outcomes and problem resolution, outcomes improvement, and assurance of patient safety (loop closure / event resolution) according to the Trauma PIPS plan.
  • Completes concurrent and retrospective review of cases to identify quality, timelines and systems of care to meet ACS standards.
  • Communicates existing or potential trauma performance improvement issues and opportunities identified in trauma case evaluation and reports trending to the TMD and TPD.
  • Enters PI information into the Trauma Registry and/or Trauma PI database to ensure adequate documentation is captured to demonstrate adherence to regulatory standards.
