Position SummaryThis is a professional nursing position responsible for delivering public health services across multiple program areas including School Health, Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Infections, Immunizations, Ryan White, Tuberculosis, and the Florida Breast and Cervical Early Detection Program. The nurse provides direct client care, health education, and case management in accordance with Florida Department of Health protocols and public health nursing standards.
Responsibilities- Administer age‑appropriate vaccines to children and adults, conduct immunization outreach and education in community settings, and maintain accurate vaccine inventory and documentation in Florida SHOTS.
- Perform health screenings (vision, hearing), collaborate with school staff to promote a healthy school environment, and conduct audits to ensure adherence.
- Conduct STI screenings, treatment, education and follow‑up per CDC guidelines.
- Provide contraceptive counseling and Family Planning services, and educate clients on reproductive health, safe sex practices, and risk reduction.
- Administer TB tests, interpret results, and provide nursing support for clients living with HIV/AIDS, including medication adherence, lab monitoring, referrals to supportive services, and continuity of care.
- Educate clients on cancer prevention and early detection and coordinate mammography and pap testing.
- Assist in maintenance of clinical areas, including prepping exam rooms, maintaining stock, cleaning rooms, inventory, ordering medications and vaccines.
Knowledge of public health nursing principles and program‑specific protocols. Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care. Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills. Cultural competence and ability to work with diverse populations. Proficiency in electronic health records and Microsoft Office.
Qualifications- Must be licensed in the State of Florida as a Registered Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or have a Compact License from a state that participates in the Compact Program.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Bilingual (especially Spanish).
- 1–3 years nursing experience.
- Experience in Case Management.
