ABOUT OUR DEPARTMENT at NCH

The Mother Baby Post Partum department at our North Naples campus is a 28 bed unit that provides care to mothers following delivery of their babies. The environment promotes a comforted recovery and mother‑baby bonding.

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse Women’s & Children’s Pavilion independently plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care in patient care situations using standards of care and policy and procedure. This position provides direct nursing care to patients and assumes teaching and leadership responsibilities. Participates in unit committee and quality improvement activities. Needs minimal supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Looks for opportunities and solutions for process improvement and seeks to improve job skills.
  • Maintains confidentiality and understands legal/regulatory requirements related to release of information.
  • Participates in data collection and unit performance metrics.
  • Documents patient care information accurately in electronic or paper medical record.
  • Pulls lab results using order entry computer and performs complete chart audit.
  • Performs thorough admission assessment and prioritizes assessments/reassessments as patient condition warrants.
  • Assesses age‑specific needs and barriers to learning, utilizing findings to develop functional plans of care.
  • Re‑evaluates and revises patient needs daily and as needed.
  • Implements nursing care efficiently, evaluating effectiveness using critical thinking skills.
  • Delegates patient care appropriately within scope of practice.
  • Checks emergency equipment and supplies; delivers patient care using problem‑solving skills.
  • Knowledge of medication dosages for patient population; administers medication safely.
  • Initiates and coordinates patient/family teaching with effective methods.
  • Follows hospital policy regarding clinical pathways and attends patient care conferences.
  • Evaluates outcomes of care to determine whether patient needs were met.
  • Documents clearly and consistently in the EMR.
  • Communicates positively and effectively with patients, families, peers, superiors, and physicians.
  • Provides feedback on problems and complaints, offering constructive suggestions.
  • Uses chain‑of‑command for problem‑solving and conflict resolution.
  • Prioritizes patient treatment to best meet patient needs and completes care assignments efficiently.
  • Utilizes resources and is familiar with unit specific policy and procedures.
  • Reports progress to Charge Nurse and provides shift reports to oncoming shift.
  • Follows hospital standards related to Infor and Kronos systems; uses supply and equipment systems efficiently.
  • Assists departmental activities to ensure operational and salary expense remain within approved budget.
  • Accepts responsibility for own learning needs; attends courses, in‑services, and maintains required clinical skills.
  • Utilizes Security Systems for infant and pediatric safety.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge:
    Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP): required within 90 days of hire and maintained.
  • STABLE certification: required within 1 year of hire and maintained.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS/ALS): required within 6 months of hire and maintained.
  • Moderate Sedation education: required within 6 months of hire and updated annually.
  • Basic Cardiology certification: required within 60 days of hire and updated annually.
  • Fetal monitoring competency (including fetal heart monitoring, tocolytics, and fetal linking): required within 6 months of hire and updated every 2 years.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): required within 6 months of hire and maintained.
  • Proficiency with Power Chart tracking shell for patient location, census information, and status “chalkboard.”
  • Knowledge of common obstetrical, neonatal, and pediatric nursing diagnoses and ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to circulate and recover cesarean and GYN cases.
