This facility operates 24/7. Candidate may be required to work a 16‑hour shift as needed.

Candidates will need to attend a full two‑week orientation, working Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This is a State of Florida Psychiatric Hospital which operates 24/7, 7 days a week.
This state‑owned hospital has 613 beds and provides inpatient psychiatric care for clients committed to the hospital by the state or through the criminal justice system.

TYPE OF PATIENTS: The hospital accepts adults 18 and older whose needs can’t be met through treatment in a community based program. The program provides evaluation, assessment, and treatment to clients who are deemed not guilty due to insanity or who are incompetent and can’t proceed with criminal proceedings.

• Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.
• Must hold unencumbered licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
• One year of nursing experience, strongly preferred.
• Must be CPR certified, or able to complete training.
• Must be able to complete full orientation at time of hire.
• Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of position including the ability to lift and carry 20 lbs, remain alert while on duty, and work 16‑hour shifts on occasion.

• Assess resident complaints and determine action, notifying supervisor when necessary.
• Admit and transfer residents to and from other units or outside sources.
• Administer oral and/or injectable medication and controlled medications in accordance with facility policy, and within their scope of practice as defined by Florida law.
• Observe for side effects or adverse effects to medication and report to assigned supervisor, or for further assessment and treatment.
• Prepare paperwork as required for consults within facility and outside appointments.
• Coordinate residents’ appointments with unit staff to ensure medications are appropriately timed as needed for resident movement to and from the unit.
• Provide emergency medical/psychiatric treatment within scope of practice as defined by the facility and Florida law and notifying supervisor for further assistance.
• Complete incident reports factually and objectively, within the appropriate time frame as defined by the facility.
• Complete progress notes on resident care within the appropriate time frame as defined by the facility.
• Advocate for residents’ recovery and safety.
• Maintain appropriate and professional behavior during interactions with residents, supervisors, and other staff members.
• Display professionalism throughout employment including, but not limited to, arriving to work on time, maintaining an accurate timesheet, and maintaining professional appearance as defined by facility policy.

• Ability to speak and understand English — Required
• Ability to pass a level 2 fingerprinting — Required
• Must have a current State of Florida Licensed Practical Nurse license — Required
• Must have 1 year acute or 2 years clinical experience working as an LPN — Required
• Must have current CPR/ACLS certification or able to complete it once hired — Required
• Ability to perform interventions with combative persons (may be required) — Required
• Able to lift and carry 25 lbs — Required
• Ability to stay alert for up to a 16‑hour shift — Required
• Ability to push, pull, bend, stoop, and kneel — Required
