Registered Nurse Specialist – HIV/AIDS Program
This position is for an experienced Registered Nurse Specialist who will provide comprehensive nursing care, counseling, and clinical services for HIV/AIDS clients in the Florida Department of Health, Lake County. The RN Specialist will work under the direction of the Assistant Community Health Nursing Director and serve as the primary RN for the HIV/AIDS program at multiple clinical sites.
Responsibilities- Conduct specialty clinics and home visits as appropriate; interview, counsel, and obtain medical history from clients.
- Assess client health status, immunization status, and identify needs; perform necessary clinical testing and provide education on medications, vaccines, and health behaviors.
- Administer immunizations, medications, and treatments in accordance with established protocols; maintain daily inventory accuracy.
- Coordinate medical and preventive services for clients based on evidence‑based guidelines; monitor compliance with labs, medications, and primary or specialty care referrals.
- Enter and update all client information in electronic health record and clinical databases; document progress notes and manage abnormal test results and referrals.
- Review outside provider records, create progress notes, and document follow‑up telephone calls.
- Participate in Clinical Quality Management processes related to STD/HIV; attend program meetings and conferences.
- Customer service and communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer programs including data entry, Excel, Word, Outlook, fax, and copier use.
- Knowledge of infectious disease laboratory tests and STD/HIV treatment protocols.
- Skill in use of medical equipment and administration of prescribed medications.
Minimum
- Willingness to work before, during, or beyond normal hours in emergency situations, including disaster response.
- Current Florida Registered Nursing License or valid multi‑state compact license from another state, with official license documentation.
- Verifiable experience working as a registered nurse.
- Ability to learn and communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing.
- Security background check and drug screening required.
Preferred
- Experience working with HIV/AIDS clients.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
- Phlebotomy experience.
