Total Compensation Estimator Tool Your Specific Responsibilities
  • Provide school health services and work 32.5 hours per week.
  • Assist with the planning, organizing, implementing, and coordinating of school health services across all school sites.
  • Serve as a team leader and manage problems that may arise at assigned school sites under general supervision of the Nursing Program Specialist/Coordinator, Executive Community Health Nursing Director, and CHD Administrator.
  • Conduct a school health program in a geographically assigned area removed from direct supervision.
  • Perform nursing assessments and health appraisals to identify existing and potential health problems, including communicable diseases, and report to appropriate agencies.
  • Provide referral and follow‑up for any health problems identified, including home visits when appropriate.
  • Offer complex medical procedures and training for special‑needs children and caregivers, such as catheterization, tube feedings, and bowel/bladder training.
  • Create and initiate care plans for students with special needs and conditions such as diabetes and ADHD.
  • Supervise screening programs that include vision, hearing, dental, nutrition, communicable disease, growth and development, and hypertension.
  • Train volunteers and Health Support Aides and Technicians in equipment usage, screening techniques, medication training, and other necessary skills.
  • Provide counseling and coordinate health education programs and services for students, school personnel, parents, and the community.
  • Monitor and maintain updated pertinent health data on student records and review records for preventable, communicable, or treatable health problems that may affect growth, development, or educational achievement.
  • Monitor immunization status of students as required by Florida law.
  • Maintain the school clinic professionally and keep an inventory of nursing supplies and equipment.
  • Assist the Healthy Start Coordinator and T.A.P. Coordinator in identifying pregnant teens and referring them to appropriate services.
  • Plan and implement Health Fair(s) at middle schools as requested by the NPSC.
  • Serve as backup Information Custodian for School Health, maintaining information in accordance with state, federal, and DOH regulations and policies.
  • Participate in staff meetings, staff development, continuing education, IEP meetings, and Safety Committee meetings as requested by district staff or the NPSC.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of nursing and public health principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to administer prescribed medications.
  • Ability to work with patients having a variety of physical problems.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Minimum

Required Qualifications
  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse, FS 464.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • CPR certification.
Where You Will Work

FDOH Washington County Health Department / Washington County School Clinics (Chipley/Vernon) and Holmes County CHD/School Clinics as needed.
