Job Summary and Qualifications
The BMT/ Apheresis RN performs direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act, emphasizing the nursing process and outcomes for cellular therapy and complex blood cancer patients. The RN is responsible for delivering and managing patient care, educating the patient and family, providing/coordinating psychosocial/emotional support, and coordinating all aspects of care during the transplant and cellular therapy collection process.
Whatyou will do in this role
- Apply principles of oncology nursing, provide emotional, spiritual, religious and cultural support to patients and their significant others.
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments regarding the health status of the patients, focusing on cellular therapy.
- Evaluate the side effects of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation, and immune effector cell therapy.
- Provide care to patients/donors undergoing cellular therapy collections or therapeutic apheresis procedures.
- Assess patients/donors before, during, and following the collection procedure.
- Ensure patients/donors and their caregivers are educated on the procedure being performed, emphasizing reporting signs or symptoms of reactions related to the procedure.
- Provide care to patients treated for graft versus host disease (GVHD) utilizing photopheresis.
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing is required.
- BSN is required.
- Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or Multi-State Compact License.
- Current BLS Certification (American Heart Association).
- ACLS Certification (American Heart Association) preferred.
- OCN Oncology Certified Nurse Certification preferred.
- 1-year of clinical Infusion BMT experience as a licensed RN required.
