POSITION SUMMARY

The Certified Nursing Assistant provides patient care and related services necessary in caring for personal needs and comforts of patients under the supervision of a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Demonstrates understanding of infection control and safety practices.

  • Adheres to the department/hospital general policies.

  • Assist RN with vital signs monitoring and/or observes patient to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares report or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions.

  • Gives direct patient care, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding patients, and assisting in examinations and treatments.

  • Adheres to department/hospital infection control standards according to established policies and procedures.

  • Adheres to department/hospital safety standards according to established policies and procedures.

  • Adheres to department/hospital risk management standards according to established policies and procedures.

  • Addresses patients, visitors, co-workers and physicians in a pleasant, respectful manner, displaying courtesy.

  • Assists and works cooperatively with other hospital staff members as needed.

  • Assesses work area for safety and cleanliness. Reports all problems with equipment to charge nurses or department director for corrective action.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all patients, hospital and physician related information

  • Occasionally may require overtime.

  • Performs other assigned duties as required.

  • Demonstrates aptitude to work with sick people, performing a variety of tasks characterized by change and short duration.

  • Demonstrates a cooperative effort with on-call coverage and assignment changes. Responds to assignment changes in a timely manner.

  • Uses special skills to care for the sick or handicapped.

  • Ability to assess the needs of a job function and adjust accordingly.

  • Use eyes, hands, and fingers to operate delicate and sensitive equipment.

  • Work precisely and accurately;
    Ability to multitask.

  • Follow instructions which may be oral, written, or in the form of charts or drawings.

  • Able to get along with coworkers, visitors, supervisors,etc.

  • Adheres to policy and procedures as set forth by the hospital.

  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.

  • Assists patients and their families in their needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Medium work:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force frequently to move objects.

Requires walking or standing to a significant degree and requires sitting a minimal amount of time. Requires near vision acuity to read thermometers and other gauges and recording charts.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Inside:

Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

Hazards
  • Subject to exposure to infectious and contagious diseases.
  • Subject to exposure to blood borne pathogens.
  • Subject to exposure to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids, and wastes.
REASONING DEVELOPMENT

Apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.

Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.

MATHEMATICAL DEVELOPMENT

Be able to compute standard measures and weights.

LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT

Reading:

Read and understand drawings, instructions, manuals, etc.

Writing:
Be able to write reports with proper format, grammar and using all parts of speech.

Speaking:
Be able to speak with poise, voice control, and confidence, using correct English and well-modulated voice.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Must be graduate from High School.
  • Florida Nursing Assistant Certificate required.
  • CPR certification preferred.

Experience and Training:

  • Successful past experience in the health delivery setting with a minimum of three to six months as a Nursing Assistant.
