ABOUT OUR DEPARTMENT

The Mother Baby Post Partum department at our North Naples campus is a 28‑bed unit that provides care to mothers following delivery of their babies. The environment promotes a comforting recovery and mother–baby bonding.

JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse Women’s & Children’s Pavilion independently plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care in patient care situations using standards of care and policy and procedure. This position provides direct nursing care to patients and assumes teaching and leadership responsibilities and participates in unit committee and quality improvement activities. Needs minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Looks for opportunities and solutions for process improvement and seeks to improve job skills.
  • Maintains confidentiality and understands legal/regulatory requirements related to the release of information. Uses relevant information systems.
  • Participates in unit data collection.
  • Locates and documents patient care information in electronic or paper medical records.
  • Pulls up lab results using order entry computer.
  • Performs thorough admission assessment and utilizes appropriate interview techniques within unit policy time frame.
  • Prioritizes assessments/reassessments as patient condition warrants.
  • Assesses age‑specific needs of the patient population served.
  • Assesses barriers to learning and utilizes findings.
  • Uses standards of nursing care to develop a functional plan of care.
  • Re‑evaluates and revises patient needs daily and as needed.
  • Identifies standards of care common to the patient population.
  • Implements nursing care efficiently and evaluates effectiveness using critical thinking skills.
  • Delegates patient care to team members within scope of practice.
  • Diligently checks emergency equipment and supplies when assigned.
  • Delivers patient care and treatment using problem‑solving skills.
  • Knows medication dosages for the patient population, administers medication safely and accurately, and utilizes available resources when questions arise.
  • Initiates and coordinates patient/family teaching using individualized effective teaching methods.
  • Follows hospital policy regarding clinical pathways and stays aware of periodic changes in unit and hospital policies; attends patient care conferences.
  • Evaluates outcomes of care to determine whether patient needs were met.
  • Documents clearly and consistently in the EMR.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, peers, superiors, and physicians.
  • Provides feedback on problems and complaints, offering constructive suggestions.
  • Utilizes chain‑of‑command for problem‑solving and conflict resolution.
  • Prioritizes patient treatment to best meet patient needs.
  • Completes care assignments efficiently.
  • Familiar with unit‑specific policies and procedures; utilizes resources effectively.
  • Reports progress to the Charge Nurse as indicated and knows when to ask for assistance.
  • Reports to oncoming shift the care that should be provided and any unmet needs.
  • Follows hospital standards related to INFOR and Kronos systems.
  • Uses the supply system efficiently and manages equipment utilized in patient care for each specialty area as required.
  • Assists and supports departmental activities to ensure operational and salary expenses stay within approved budgets.
  • Accepts responsibility for own learning needs, attends courses and in‑services, maintains required clinical skills, and stays current with policies.
  • Utilizes security systems for infant and pediatric safety.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge:
    Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
  • Utilizes Power Chart tracking shell for patient location, census information, and status “chalkboard.”
