Job Summary
Welcome to our Operating Room Department! We provide professional and skilled surgical care to patients using the “patient centered care” model of SMHCS (policy 126.054) in accordance with the ANA Standards of Professional Practice and with the AORN guidelines for Perioperative Practice.
Operating RoomPatient Population: patients with elective, urgent, and emergent need for a surgical intervention. Routine to traumatic diagnoses requiring complex nursing assessment skills and care, including but not limited to:
- Trauma related fractures or orthopedic abnormalities requiring surgical intervention, traction, splinting, casts, or other skeletal immobilization.
- Acute Traumatic Brain Injuries.
- Cardiac and Thoracic interventions.
- Acute General Surgical care.
- GYN, GU, Robotic, Oncology, Orthopedic, Podiatry, ENT, Vascular, and Plastics.
- Working with Anesthesia and an inter-disciplinary team focused on excellence in patient care.
- Night Shift (21:00pm-7:30am, Monday-Friday)
- 8, 10, and 12 hour shifts
- Call required for full-time and part-time positions, 24‑36 hours of call per 4‑week pay period, 2 hour stay‑late after shift.
Hourly rate is determined by years of experience as an RN, education level, and internal equity. Minimum starting hourly rate is $35.75, maximum $55.55. Certification pay of $1.50 per hour if holding an approved certification.
Required Qualifications- Previous experience as an Operating Room Nurse.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic working knowledge of common computer applications.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certified through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) recommended for experienced RNs.
- PALS (Pediatric Life Support) recommended for experienced RNs.
- Completion of Peri Op 101 for those new to the OR.
- Successful completion of multi‑specialty orientation.
- BSN required within 5 years of hire for ASN candidates.
- Certification in a nursing specialty area.
BSN:
Bachelor of Science Nursing.
- BLS/CPR.
- FL RN (Florida Registered Nurse License).
- ACLS.
