An opportunity is available for self‑motivated, hard‑working team players with strong resource management, visitor services, protection, and maintenance experience. The role is situated at Sebastian Inlet State Park, a full‑service park that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Responsibilities- Visitor Services – Explains facilities and services for public use, meets visitors, answers questions, and provides information and directions. Attempts to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations. Provides natural and cultural history interpretive programs via tours, walks, and campfire programs.
- Resource Management – Implements ecological burning and vegetation/wildfire management plans, maintains fire lanes, participates in site restoration projects (reforestation, erosion control), and implements water resource management plans.
- Maintenance – Constructs, maintains, and repairs small buildings, fences, trails, service roads, fire lanes, boardwalks, campsites, picnic sites, boat ramps, docks, and other facilities. Maintains cleanliness of grounds and facilities.
- Administration – Prepares forms and reports on fees, receipts, visitor use, patrols, wildlife sightings, accidents, incidents, vehicle/boat/equipment operations, property records, purchase orders, and requisitions. Answers telephone, operates radio equipment, personal computer, and maintains logs and park files.
- Protection – Ensures park rules are enforced regarding natural, historical, and archaeological resources for visitor enjoyment. Performs related work as required.
- Knowledge of good public relations, basic arithmetic, and prescribed wildfire concepts.
- Skill in operating vehicles; using hand tools, small engines, and power tools.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, communicate effectively in writing and orally, perform physical labor, operate radio equipment, conduct cash register transactions, handle visitor inquiries courteously, apply rules and policies, prepare reports, work independently with minimal supervision, work outdoors, lift 40 pounds, establish effective relationships, and use personal computers.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Successful completion of Ranger Academy.
- Completion of background and fingerprint checks.
This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422. Successful completion of background screening is required.
Pay$2,896.67 monthly ($34,760.00 annually).
