Lion Country Safari Lead Veterinary Technician

Full‑time licensed Lead Veterinary Technician needed for our dynamic hospital team in Loxahatchee, Florida. Lion Country Safari is a diverse zoological park with over 600 animals across a 320‑acre preserve. Core species include chimpanzees, non‑domestic hoofstock, lions, rhinos, avian species, small ruminants, and reptiles.

Under Veterinary supervision, duties include:

• Assist veterinarians in providing health care for the entire animal collection, including hospitalized patients, record keeping, purchasing, inventory, lab work, equipment maintenance, medication preparation, and cleaning.
• Participate in surgical and necropsy procedures and animal capture as per written protocol.
• Exhibit leadership qualities such as effective time management, collaboration, and communication.
• Assist the Hospital Manager with training, mentorship, task delegation, and operational flow optimization.
• Help ensure compliance with AZA, USDA, OSHA, and other federal and local regulations.

• Certification in veterinary technology required.
• Five years’ experience as a veterinary technician in a zoological facility required.
• Valid driver’s license.

• Willingness to work overtime, be available for emergency work, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to work outdoors in heat and lift heavy objects up to 70 lbs.
• Understanding of physical and health risks associated with wildlife and zoo animals.
• Capability to work both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
• Excellent work ethic, positive attitude, and professionalism.
• Experience with computed tomography is a plus.
