Job SummaryThe Town of Fort Myers Beach is hiring a Maintenance Worker I
- Beach to care for our beautiful shoreline, parks, and public spaces. The role is hands‑on and outdoors, perfect for someone who takes pride in keeping our community clean, safe, and inviting for residents and visitors.
- Perform daily cleaning, maintenance, and inspection of beach accesses, walkovers, parking areas, and shoreline facilities.
- Collect, bag, and dispose of trash, litter, seaweed, and debris from beaches, trash receptacles, and shoreline facilities.
- Clean and restock public restrooms, changing areas, and showers as assigned.
- Maintain trash and recycling stations along beach accesses and Town parks.
- Inspect and perform minor repairs on beach access structures, walkovers, signage, fencing, and other infrastructure.
- Operate light equipment and utility vehicles such as golf carts, blowers, sweepers, pressure washers, and hand tools.
- Support the installation and maintenance of beach signs and public information boards.
- Assist with sand removal, debris clearing, and restoration following storms or high‑tide events.
- Report maintenance issues, damage, vandalism, or safety concerns to supervisors.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, state laws, and Town safety standards.
- Assist with Town‑wide Public Works and special event setup, breakdown, and clean‑up—including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Prepare for and participate in storm preparation and recovery operations.
- Operate light and heavy equipment in support of beach maintenance projects.
- Perform routine inspections of vehicles, tools, and equipment; report needed repairs.
- Monitor inventory of supplies, equipment, and materials.
- Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment at all times.
- Complete required documentation, logs, and reports for daily operations and vehicle usage.
- Attend required training, meetings, and drive a motor vehicle for assigned tasks.
- Perform emergency response tasks and assignments as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED; one (1) year of experience in maintenance, groundskeeping, or custodial work preferred.
- Valid state driver's license; must obtain a valid Florida Driver’s License within thirty (30) days of hire.
- Experience operating small machinery, utility vehicles, or landscaping equipment preferred.
- Knowledge of beach maintenance procedures, cleaning methods, environmental best practices, basic building and grounds maintenance techniques, and safety precautions.
- Skill in operating light motorized equipment, hand tools, and power tools; identifying maintenance needs and safety hazards.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to follow schedules, and effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, maintain a positive attitude, and follow OSHA guidelines and Town safety standards.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally.
