Volunteer Opportunities
- Dog Walkers: Our goal is for each dog to get out of their kennel at least twice every day. Dog walkers spend quality one‑on‑one time with them cuddling, playing in yards, and providing baths.
- Playgroups: CCAS uses the nationally‑recognized Dogs Playing for Life method of playgroups, allowing dogs quality time with each other. Volunteer roles include playgroup leader, playgroup supervisor, and runner.
- Cat Cuddlers: Cats enjoy spending quality time with caring humans. Cadorners spend time with feline friends through play, cuddling, grooming, and training to make them comfortable in their temporary shelter home.
- Customer Service and Office Support: Customer service volunteers greet guests, answer phone calls, and provide information about the Animal Services. Office support volunteers assist with the creation of information packets for fosters and volunteers.
- Adoption Events: Volunteers play a crucial role in adoption counseling at off‑site events. Jobs may include dog handling, answering adopter questions, and ensuring pets are comfortable and happy.
- Enrichment: Volunteers help maintain in‑kennel enrichment such as toys, treats, and puzzles. Duties include stuffing Kongs, making frozen "Pupsicles," and catnip toys.
- Photography: Volunteers capture quality photos for marketing our pets for adoption, ensuring pets look at the camera and present their best angles.
- Laundry and Dishes: Volunteers assist with daily laundry and dishes, keeping animals happy and healthy during their shelter stay.
All volunteers must meet minimum qualifications for placement. The primary qualification is the ability and suitability to perform a task on behalf of the County.
Age – The minimum age of a County volunteer is 14. Volunteers aged 14–17 must have parent or guardian approval for safety. The County may terminate volunteer relationships at any time for any reason.
No current County employee may volunteer in a capacity that is similar to their regular paid position.
