Do you enjoy the outdoors? If so, then this position is for you! Sarasota County is seeking an Equipment Operator II in the Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department. This position starts out paying $18.21/hr (Step

- Operate a grapple truck for the tree crew to remove debris.
- Transport and operate tractors and skid steers to remove large tree and landscape debris.
- Operate bushhogs, zero-turn and 11’ rotary mowers to mow areas in Parks, Beaches, and other County-owned and maintained properties.
- Use of handheld tools in accomplishing daily tasks and debris removal at various park locations. Tools to include string trimmer, blower, rake, shovel, etc.
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment that is used in accordance with maintenance standards. Troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed.
- Complete assigned work orders productively and professionally. Use various Microsoft and other software applications to complete other related duties.
Work Hours:
- Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
- Typical Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 08:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m. (no weekends!) - As a reminder, all county employees are considered essential and must be prepared to protect and support the community and its citizens. Each employee, without exception, will have a duty assignment and be required to work during a disaster or declared emergency.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or its equivalent
AND
one (1) year of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of one or more pieces of the equipment described herein. - Must
have a valid Florida Class B CDL or greater. - Valid Florida driver's license by date of hire
Subject to Passing Substance Screening:This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five years.
