Other nights are spent at the Brinton Environmental Center in air-conditioned dorms. Mates facilitate activities such as kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, fishing, snorkeling, and sailing, and serve as guides while maintaining safety standards and an enthusiastic attitude.

They serve as first mates aboard a 45-foot Corinthian and a 28-foot center console, and are responsible for mediating conflict, motivating participants, and developing crews’ leadership skills. Mates work in groups of two to five and must be team players.
