Position Overview and Responsibilities:

The Florida Conservation Corps (FLCC) Ameri Corps program is a 30‑year‑old program administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Florida Park Service. Volunteers serve at state parks throughout Florida. Under Project A.N.T. (Ameri Corps Non‑native Plant Terminators) volunteers work in pairs at approximately 25 state parks, focusing on habitat restoration through invasive exotic plant management. Volunteers reduce invasive plant infestations, educate park visitors and local communities, and recruit volunteers for continued efforts.

They report daily to onsite park management and submit service data to FLCC staff based in Gainesville, FL.

Volunteers are required to serve 1,700 hours between September 2026 and July 31, 2027 (approximately 35–40 hours per week). The program offers education about Ameri Corps and National Service.

• Tool maintenance (chainsaws, trail tools, herbicide application tools, hatchets, machetes, hand saw, vehicles, ATV, UTV)
• Safe use of herbicide application
• Participation in prescribed fire
• Create, maintain, and improve public trails
• Introduction to federal and state policy and guidelines
• Experience entering data and retrieving reports for progress tracking
• Organize and/or participate in strike teams and service projects
• Network and build relationships with natural resource professionals
• Community outreach: flyer and graphic design, recruitment of volunteers, table at community events, interaction and education of park visitors, disaster response recovery efforts

This position will directly impact Florida State Parks by improving natural communities, attracting volunteers, educating the public, and enhancing trails.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

• Florida ecosystems and resource management techniques

Skill in:

• Communicating effectively verbally and in writing
• Using a computer and software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite

Ability to:

• Attend in‑person orientation in October 2026 (dates TBD)
• Complete 1,700 hours between September 1, 2027 and July 31, 2027
• Successfully complete background and fingerprint checks
• Accurately prepare reports
• Interact professionally with all customers and the general public
• Use a computer and Microsoft Office Suite
• Participate in resource management tasks, including non‑native plant removal with possible herbicide application
• Follow verbal and written instructions
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Work outdoors in inclement weather
• Perform physical labor and lift 40 pounds; assist in transporting items or other supplies 100 pounds or more
• Properly wear uniform

• Must successfully pass background check

Minimum Qualifications:

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422. Successful completion of background screening will be required.

Pay:

Monthly Living Stipend: $2,200.00
