AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER PROTECTION SUPERVISOR - OPS
The headquarters for this position is negotiable within Polk County.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A high school diploma and four (4) years of experience in regulatory inspections, quality control work or in the care and husbandry of commercial livestock; or A bachelor's degree (4 years) from an accredited college or university with a major in animal husbandry, or coursework to include three (3) courses in an agricultural, physical, biological, or natural science. Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license.
Preference will be given to those with experience in the care, management and husbandry of livestock including equine or poultry.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position has regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Section 60L-36.003, Florida Administrative Code, and Chapter 112.313, Florida Statutes. Willingness to respond to emergency duty, whether called day or night. This emergency duty may include natural disasters or animal disease outbreaks. Willingness to be deployed from your assigned headquarters for extended periods of time (up to 30 days).
Occasional travel required. Incumbent must pass a pulmonary function test with medical evaluation, must undergo and pass regular respirator fit-testing, and must wear a respirator when required. Will be subject to the requirements of the proper use of appropriate respirator. Incumbent must be willing to work during the weekend and holidays as required. Some alternate work hours required to accomplish duties and responsibilities.
Must reside in required county(ies) throughout employment in this position.
JOB DUTIES:
Responsible and accountable for managing budget/dollars/resources (staff, vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc.) of any assigned programs in an efficient and accountable manner. Responsible for ensuring that assigned program areas have operational procedures and processes which result in accountability and compliance with division and department policies and procedures.
The duties and responsibilities of this position are to plan and direct the day-to-day work activities of Agriculture and Consumer Protection (ACP) Specialists within their span of control. Activities are related to the division's goal of protecting the marketability of the state's livestock and poultry through specific inspection programs and other duties related to prevention, control and eradication of transmissible and communicable diseases.
Primary duties include emergency preparedness, emergency management and emergency response involving animal related issues. This position provides a vital link between the direct reports and management.

Computer skills Ability to communicate effectively Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Ability to frequently bend, kneel, climb, stand and walk several hours each day Ability to work on uneven terrain. Ability to conduct inspections in natural and cultivated areas with uneven ground. Ability lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
