- The Public Access Technician assists the Construction & Maintenance team and FWC area staff in maintaining and improving outdoor recreation on areas managed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
- Duties include but are not limited to:
Assessing, cleaning, maintaining, and repairing public access infrastructure such as signs, trails, kiosks, boardwalks, picnic areas, wildlife observation platforms, and other structures. - Clearing, marking, and maintaining recreational trails and Trailheads.
- Proposing new public access opportunities for potential implementation.
- Monitoring trails and facilities on FWC's managed areas to ensure they meet agency and state requirements.
- Maintaining all equipment in safe, usable condition.
- Constructing amenities such as camping platforms and benches.
- Developing relationships with local recreationists including, hiking, biking, horseback riding, paddling, fishing, and hunting.
- Participating in outreach programs such as interacting with users on the areas and attending volunteer work events.
- Providing assistance to FWC-managed area staff on various projects.
- Conducting general handyman work.
- A high school diploma and 1 year of post-high school experience in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction is required.
- Vocational training or an associate's degree in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction from an accredited school or college may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
- Must possess and maintain a valid minimum Class E State of Florida driver's license.
- Must be able to operate ATVs, tractors, heavy equipment, and tools.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, work in remote areas and under inclement weather conditions.
- Occasional overnight travel is required.
Demonstrates expertise in maintaining and improving public access infrastructure while ensuring compliance with agency and state requirements. Capable of operating heavy equipment and tools, and fostering relationships with local recreationists.
