Clinical Veterinarian, Breeding and Colony Health — LaBelle, FL

Safer Human Medicine is looking for a Clinical Veterinarian to support the health and welfare of ouranimalsin

Position Summary:

This is a hands-on clinical role responsible for the day-to-day veterinary care of our breeding colony, with a strong emphasis on reproductive health, pregnancy management, nursery operations, and neonatal and maternal care. Reporting to the Attending Veterinarian, this role helps Safer Human Medicine achieve its animal welfare, organizational, and businessobjectivesby keeping our colony healthy, productive, and thriving.

Responsibilities:

Veterinary and Clinical Care

  • Provides daily medical, surgical, and preventive care for colony animals to ensure humane,high-qualityveterinary support

  • Performs physical exams, diagnostics, and treatment of sick or injured animals across all life stages

  • Implements andmaintainspreventive health programs, disease surveillance, and biosecurity for the colony

  • Administers anesthesia and analgesia and performs surgical and postsurgical care

  • Participates in the 24/7 on call rotation and provides after hours and emergency coverage as needed

Reproductive and Colony Health

  • Manages reproductive health of the breeding colony, including ovulation and pregnancy detection, gestational tracking, and prenatal monitoring

  • Monitors dams through pregnancy and parturition and intervenes appropriately in cases of dystocia or pregnancy complications

  • Partners with colony managers and behaviorists to support breeding group formation, pedigree management, and breeding performance

  • Tracks colony health and reproductive metrics and drives continuous improvement to enhance welfare and productivity

Nursery, Neonatal, and Maternal Care

  • Provides clinical oversight of the nursery and neonatal care program, including monitoring of newborn health, growth, and development

  • Develops and refines nursery, neonatal, and rearing protocols in collaboration with the behavior team

Regulatory and Compliance Support

  • Supports the Attending Veterinarian inmaintainingregulatory compliance, including USDA, CDC, and DEA requirements

  • Helps develop andmaintainveterinary SOPs and supports inspection readiness and findings resolution

  • Partners with IACUC to proactivelyidentifyand resolve issues

  • Ensures controlled substances are properly secured and documented

Client and Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Partners with client counterparts to proactively address issues and take ownership of corrective actions

  • Collaborates across veterinary, behavior, husbandry, and operations teams to deliver win/win outcomes and high client satisfaction

Leadership and Team Development

  • Provides technical guidance, training, and mentorship to veterinary technicians and animal care staff

  • Helps attract, develop, andretaintalent with a focus on growth

  • Promote active and open discussions and feedback to promote decision-making that yields the best outcomes for our animals, our employees, and our clients

People and Values

  • Promotes a Culture of Care and Safety First

  • Contributes tocompany wideanimal welfare training and a strong learning culture

  • Represents SHM in community involvement and industry events and helps share our accomplishments and scientific advances in animal welfare

Experience /

Qualifications:
  • DVM/VMD from an accredited veterinary school

  • Eligible to obtain veterinary licensure and USDA accreditation for the state

  • Experience with NHP medicine strongly preferred; a genuine desire to work with NHPs is essential

  • Experience with NHP breeding, reproductive management, nursery, and neonatal or maternal care is highly desired

  • Hands on clinical and surgical experience, including anesthesia and analgesia

  • Experience drafting SOPs and training materials

  • Experience working with clients

  • ACLAM board certification or eligibility is a plus but not required

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
