OverviewDr. Richard Macatee, the Director of the Biobehavioral Research on Addiction and Internalizing Syndromes (BRAINS) laboratory at Florida State University, is hiring a part‑time registered nurse to work on a National Institute on Health supported study that aims to evaluate how stress affects brain activity and the body’s physiological responses in cannabis users.
ResponsibilitiesPart‑time RN will be responsible for collecting physiological data at two different types of lab visits:
1) 45‑minute medical screening visits and
2) 5‑hour lab visits. At medical visits, the RN will complete a physical exam, collect a single blood draw, and record vitals/EKG data. During lab visits, the RN will collect and document participants’ vitals, insert an in‑dwelling IV catheter into the participant’s arm for repeated blood draws, and perform blood draws at three separate times during the 5‑hour experiment. Blood draws must be made with minimal hemolysis.
- Insert an in‑dwelling IV catheter into a research participant’s arm for repeated blood draws and draw blood 3 times from that catheter over the course of a 5‑hour experiment. Blood draws must be made with minimal hemolysis.
- Collect regular vitals assessments
- Complete physical exams and simple EKG procedure
- May have to administer 0.1mg clonidine (oral) to research participant if indicated by safety protocol.
- Document participants vitals throughout a 5‑hour experiment.
Bachelor's Degree
- Licensed Registered Nurse with extensive experience in IV catheter insertion/maintenance for repeated blood draws.
