Economic Research Associate
The Economic Research Associate of the Labor Market Statistics team in the Division of Workforce Services is responsible for building a portion of the quarterly database (QCEW) that summarizes employment and wages for businesses covered by unemployment compensation laws. The role includes data entry, statistical analysis, error correction, and communication with employers to ensure data accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements.
Responsibilities- Construct and maintain a segment of the QCEW database, aggregating data by NAICS codes and counties.
- Perform statistical analysis to identify employment trends and ensure data validity.
- Identify and correct data errors, missing entries and discrepancies using spreadsheet tools and the QUEST system.
- Assign NAICS and county codes to unclassified accounts.
- Communicate with employers by telephone and written correspondence regarding data issues or clarification of survey responses.
- Provide concise narrative comments for data fluctuations and submit them within required time frames.
- Deliver accurate data for state, local and federal policy‑making use.
Minimum
- Official work‑site performance in the Department is required.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Basic mathematical, statistical and economic concepts.
- Responsive to occasional travel.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related social science.
- At least four years of research or analytical experience.
- Experience with spreadsheet applications and database maintenance.
- Understanding of the Reemployment Assistance Law.
Security screening:
Level 2 background check including fingerprinting and a review of local, state and national law enforcement records is required.
Annual salary: $41,000 to $43,000.
