The Historic Preservationist works for the Department of State's Division of Historical Resources to identify, research, and document historic and abandoned cemeteries throughout Florida using archival research, genealogical investigation, and GIS mapping. The role involves conducting site visits, managing data in the Florida Master Site File, coordinating with community partners, and supporting public outreach and educational initiatives related to cemetery preservation.
Keyqualifications:
- Four years of experience in archaeology, anthropology, historic preservation, or architectural history (or bachelor's degree substitute)
- Advanced proficiency with ArcGIS Pro Desktop software including georeferencing, digitization, and analysis with required work sample submission
- Knowledge of cemetery studies, cultural significance, and material characteristics of historic cemeteries
- Ability to conduct historical and genealogical research using vital records and archival documentation
- Valid Driver's License and ability to travel for site visits and community outreach
- Ability to adjust work schedule for evenings, weekends, and after-hours obligations
