Position SummaryThe Food Service Supervisor is responsible for supervising inmate labor and team members assisting with the food service operation in a correctional facility. The role includes preparing, serving, and ensuring quality food in accordance with work instructions and menus. The position is located in a Jail/Correctional Facility and requires close contact with inmates.
Essential Functions / Core Responsibilities- Supervise inmate labor and/or team members in the kitchen during food preparation and service shifts.
- Prepare, assist, or instruct inmate labor and/or team members in the preparation of quality foods according to the planned menu, recipes, and work instructions.
- Ensure food is stored properly and sanitized.
- Serve food during planned meal schedules and according to department policies and procedures.
- Use kitchen utensils and equipment to cook, prepare, and serve food according to recipes.
- Follow all food safety regulations pertaining to sanitation, food handling and storage.
- Train other food service workers.
- Maintain a clean work area, including cleaning refrigerators, freezers, cooking equipment, and serving equipment.
- Follow facility uniform policy.
- Handle garbage collection and keep kitchen floors clean.
- Keep the kitchen environment ready for food prep/serving, including sweeping, mopping, and dishwashing.
- Ensure proper portions and utensils are reviewed for service.
- Promote a healthy and safe work environment for employees and inmates.
- Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods.
- Be able to stand and be on feet for the majority of the shift.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Required:
- High School Diploma or GED and/or equivalent experience. Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Preferred:
- Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience is preferred.
