minimum qualifications:

eight years of professional experience directly related to duties and responsibilities of this position.

a degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in marine biology, life or physical science may substitute for the required experience as follows:

  • bachelor's degree and four years of professional biological experience in a field or laboratory program; or
  • a master of science degree and three years of professional experience in a field or laboratory program; or
  • a doctorate and one year of professional experience in a field or laboratory program.

preferred qualifications:

preference may be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

  • an advanced degree in marine biology, life or physical sciences, or a closely related field.
  • two years of supervisory experience.

requirements:

  • employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal history check in accordance with chapter 435, florida statutes.
  • working hours are monday – friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Eastern time.
  • some travel is required and may include weeknights, weekends and holidays.
  • responses to qualifying questions should be able to be verified by skills and/or experience stated on the profile application/resume. Information should be provided regarding any gaps in employment.
  • knowledge of computer software, including sas, excel spreadsheets, ms power point, and ms word, is required.

licensure, certification, or registration requirements:

position overview and responsibilities:

this position serves a leadership role in the analysis and rule making section of the division of marine fisheries management, supervising regional biologists in titusville, west palm beach, and st. Petersburg. The analysis and rule making section is responsible for coordinating and developing marine fisheries policy and rule making for state‑managed species. The biological administrator ii is responsible for technical planning, leadership, evaluation, and administrative assistance to the sub‑section.

This position plays an important role in establishing networks of stakeholders, guiding technical analyses of marine fisheries data, and leading special projects. This position reports to the section leader and supports the section leader in rule making, stakeholder engagement, supervision, and other section activities.
