Position Overview And ResponsibilitiesThe Chemist III position, , is in the Division of Environmental Assessment and Restoration’s Chemistry Program, LC Group, in Tallahassee. The duties of incumbent involve analyzing environmental samples for pesticides, chemical tracers, cyanotoxins, PFAS, VOCs, and other related compounds or contaminants of interest to agency programs. This position is critical to satisfying ongoing demands for analyses necessary to support water quality impairment decisions and providing support for other customers, both within and outside the Department of Environmental Protection.

- Knowledge of Chemistry principles and techniques.
- Knowledge of the terminology, principles and techniques of chemical research, analysis, or testing.
- Knowledge of the procedures, techniques and equipment used in laboratory testing and analysis.
- Knowledge of the methods of data collection.
- Skill in the use of scientific laboratory equipment.
- Ability to collect, record and analyze scientific data relating to chemistry.
- Ability to conduct chemical research, tests and analyses using scientific methods and techniques.
- Ability to perform quantitative analysis of scientific data.
- Ability to determine work priorities, coordinates work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Ability to keep accurate research records.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to the science of chemistry.
- At least 6 years of verifiable related experience in chemistry, environmental science, natural sciences, biological sciences, or physical sciences. Post‑secondary degrees from an accredited college or university with a major in chemistry, environmental science, natural sciences, biological sciences, or physical sciences may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year‑for‑year basis. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.
Salary: $4,465.05 per month.
