• Create, construct and repair highly specialized scientific research equipment and facilities.
• Assist users in setting up and carrying out experiments.
• Instruct users in the operation of special equipment and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory.
• Perform functions in support of assigned responsibilities to include purchasing instrumentation and supplies.
• Assist Chief of User Support with providing software and data acquisition support of other National High Magnetic Field Laboratory project teams.
• Perform complex experiments to facilitate development of new experimental capabilities including analyzing, modelling, and reporting of experimental data.
• Interpret and implement policy relative to user utilization of instrumentation.
• Assist with policy development for overall user program.
• Maintain technical knowledge and expertise at the highest level and use the knowledge/expertise to identify short- and long‑range instrumentation needs.
• Participate in development of new programs to meet users' needs as they evolve.
• Independently research and propose solutions that improve experimental capabilities to enhance the user experience.

A Bachelor's degree and nine years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and thirteen years of experience. (

post high‑school education and/or experience may substitute at a comparable rate.)

Expertise in thermal transport measurements at low temperatures and high magnetic fields.

This is an A&P position.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.
