Location: Tallahassee
Entry-level Environmental Specialist I position in the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Environmental Assessment and Restoration, located in Tallahassee. The role involves conducting and analyzing aquatic toxicity bioassays, performing algal growth potential tests, and ensuring laboratory quality assurance and compliance with state and federal regulations. The incumbent will work with various test organisms to assess environmental hazards and pollutants affecting Florida's resources.
KeyQualifications
- Four years of verifiable related experience in biological, environmental, natural, or physical sciences, or post-secondary degree as alternative on year-for-year basis
- Knowledge of aquatic toxicity testing procedures, techniques, QA/QC, and laboratory equipment
- Skill in use of scientific laboratory and field equipment and Microsoft Office software
- Ability to collect, record, and analyze scientific data and follow technical laboratory procedures
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and work with chemicals including acids and acetone
- Valid Driver's License and ability to work regular weekends and holidays
