The Florida Department of Environmental Protection seeks an OPS Environmental Specialist I to support coastal restoration and monitoring activities in the Central Panhandle Aquatic Preserves program. The role involves field monitoring, sample collection, data management, and technical reporting related to Deepwater Horizon restoration projects and aquatic preserve management. Based in Eastpoint, FL, the position requires SCUBA certification and environmental or natural science experience, with occasional overnight travel.
- Valid driver's license and open water SCUBA certification from a nationally recognized institution
- At least four years of verifiable related experience in environmental or natural sciences
- Knowledge of marine ecology, coastal processes, seagrass monitoring, and water quality sampling methods
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and GIS/resource mapping techniques
- Ability to swim, snorkel, and SCUBA safely in varying water conditions
- Ability to obtain boater's safety certificate and complete physical field work in coastal environments
