Environmental Specialist III

The Environmental Specialist III conducts specialized professional work on radiation matters for the Florida Department of Health, including evaluating and licensing uses of radioactive materials, reviewing inspections, and developing proposed rules. The role involves administrative and technical review of applications, independent issuance or denial of licenses, and coordination of licensing and inspection policies. This position requires availability for 24-hour radiation emergency response and may involve work before, during, or beyond normal hours.

• Knowledge of ionizing radiation physics, detection instrumentation, and hazard regulations
• Ability to understand and apply applicable rules and regulations relating to ionizing radiation detection, measurement, and control
• Skill in mathematically determining radioactive decay and performing radiological surveys
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent preferred
• 3 to 5 years of experience in chemistry, physics, health physics (radiation-related), or nuclear medicine technology preferred
• Valid Florida Driver's License required; ability to lift 60 pounds; authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
