A high school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in radio‑teletype operations, sworn law enforcement, dispatching, forestry, firefighting, or other public contact work. College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for the required experience.

Occasional travel for training. The position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other incidents requiring travel, as needed. The incumbent must live within thirty (30) miles of 2883 Forestry Drive, Bonifay, Florida.

• Direct support of fire suppression and other emergency response operations.
• Coordinate emergency responses of firefighters, supervisors, pilots, and law enforcement personnel through a communication center.
• Deal with critical situations requiring independent judgment.
• Perform both operational fire control and other support duties.
• Work may be scheduled over a variety of shifts, and the incumbent may frequently remain or be called to duty beyond the assigned work schedule.
• Receive radio and telephone information from fire towers, law enforcement, aircraft, fire crews, supervisors, and the general public concerning wildfires and smoke obscuring highways.
• Determine action required and dispatch emergency response personnel and/or aircraft if necessary.
• Ensure the security of law enforcement investigators conducting arson, timber theft, surveillance operations, etc., who are frequently on one‑man patrol in remote locations.
• Approve or deny outdoor burning authorization by telephone using informed judgment and advise landowners of burning laws and safety precautions. Maintain computer records of all burns.
• Operate a computer to transmit, receive, and store district fire reports, burning authorizations, fire readiness reports, and daily weather information. Store, transmit, and receive district records and reports.
• Keep up‑to‑the‑minute knowledge of the location of all crews and equipment, including firefighters and patrol aircraft, directly engaged in fire suppression.
• Perform other related work as assigned, which may include handling revenue.
