General Trades Technician (Panama City Campus)

Panama City, FL

Regular, Full-Time

• Responsible for yard work, inspections, preventative and repair maintenance to ensure all buildings, grounds, and equipment are in safe operating conditions.
• Maintenance of groundskeeping, landscaping, irrigation system, campusways, and parking areas.
• Troubleshooting and repair of building maintenance, which consists of painting, drywall, carpentry, A/C systems, electrical systems, including water and sewer lines, doors and windows, gas and electric welding, and soldering as needed.
• Generates and responds to emails and work orders via the online work order system. Updates work order system daily regarding progress and/or upon completion of assignment.
• Assists with set-ups for special functions on and off campus.

• High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience, or a combination of post-high school education and experience equal to two years. (A technical or vocational degree may substitute for experience.)
• A valid State of Florida or Georgia Driver’s License or the ability to obtain prior to hire.

• Technical or vocational training in facilities maintenance, construction, HVAC, plumbing, or electrical trades.
• Experience working in higher education, healthcare, or large-scale public facilities.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 General Industry Safety Certification.
• Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. Experience reading work orders, blueprints, or maintenance manuals.
• Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Good communication and record-keeping skills. Notes where maintenance or repair is required and reports any problems to supervisors.

• Participate in guided training sessions on university equipment, facilities, and standard operating procedures.
• Shadow experienced staff to learn daily workflows and preventative maintenance practices.
• Gain an understanding of department safety protocols and compliance requirements.
• Take on progressively more independent assignments with ongoing support and feedback.
• Establish strong working relationships with team members and campus partners.
