Electronic Technician II – This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Century Correctional Institution in the Maintenance Department. The mission of Facilities Management and Building Construction at the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide a safe, secure, and efficient environment for staff, inmates, and visitors, achieved through the effective management, maintenance, and construction of correctional facilities.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
Job DutiesThis position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of all types of electronic systems and devices, including electronic perimeter security systems, internal electronic security systems, electronic and electrical locking control systems, CCTV systems, communication systems, and associated components utilized in a correctional facility.
- Maintain, repair, and install electrical infrastructure, systems, and devices, and provide on‑job training to supervised inmates.
- Perform preventive maintenance, tests, logs, and keep records for electrical systems per Department guidelines.
- Repair and modify complex electronic equipment and operate, repair, and calibrate testing equipment.
- Plan and organize work, requisition necessary parts, and adhere to maintenance and construction policies and procedures.
- Prepare reports, maintain custody and control of supervised inmates, participate in departmental staff training, and perform other related duties as required.

- Recently Retired? Beginning July 1, 2024, there is no longer a reemployment limitation; beginning with the 7th calendar month from the member’s distribution date, there are no restrictions on working for an FRS employer. - A high school diploma or its equivalent and at least one (1) year of experience in the electronics / electrician field, or four or more years of electronics experience (College or vocational/technical training in one of the above trades can substitute for the required experience).
- A valid Driver’s License.
