The actual salary offered will depend on qualifications and experience.

Job Responsibilities
  • Accurately locate existing underground utilities including water distribution mains and services, raw water well mains, natural gas mains and services, electric primary, secondary, and service cables, wastewater gravity collection mains, force mains, services, traffic signal cables, street light circuits, and fiber.
  • Perform work under direct supervision of the Utility Locate Foreman or as designated.
  • Incorporate and employ continuous change, creativity, collaboration, pride, and accountability in all tasks.
  • Use knowledge of materials, tools, equipment, and methods commonly employed in advanced utility locating activities.
  • Comply with administrative reporting requirements of federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Apply knowledge of occupational hazards, standard safety precautions, safe work methods, FPUA's Safety Program, and related safety devices.
  • Utilize knowledge of Florida Department of Transportation's Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) procedures.
  • Demonstrate some knowledge of the geographical work area.
  • Communicate effectively and establish harmonious relationships with supervisors, customers, contractors, employees, other departments, governmental and regulatory agencies, and the general public.
  • Understand and follow brief oral and written instructions on moderately complex matters.
  • Efficiently handle emergencies and multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Operate a computer to support locating activities.
  • Accurately read and interpret as‑built drawings, blueprints, diagrams, sketches, construction plans, and key maps of underground utilities systems.
  • Prepare reports and keep records of all location activities.
  • Distinguish between source and load side of water and electric meters.
  • Train other departmental employees and mentor new hires as required.
  • Maintain good job‑related physical condition and sufficient strength for heavy manual labor.
  • Perform standby duty on a rotational basis.
  • Work shift schedules including evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Wear personal protective safety equipment such as safety glasses, face shields, hearing protection, gloves, safety vests, and hard hats.
  • Work in adverse weather conditions to restore service to customers during emergencies.
  • Work in difficult and strenuous conditions associated with operating underground utilities systems.
  • Keep trucks, tools, and equipment clean, ready for use, and well stocked for daily assignments.
  • Perform daily vehicle safety checklists before leaving and upon returning to the compound.
  • Assist departmental employees, support training, and perform mentoring duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
  • High school graduate or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Some experience operating semi‑sophisticated electronic, computer locating equipment and other industry standard equipment.
  • Comparable training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
  • Ability to react to change productively and handle additional tasks as assigned.
  • Pass a pre‑employment drug test and be subject to random drug and alcohol testing as required by federal and state regulations.
Training & Certification
  • Complete the Midwest Energy Association (MEA) Operator Qualification Program modules within six (6) months of hire with a test score of no less than 80% and no missed critical questions.
