Overview
The Security Systems Manager / Access Control Lead Technician is responsible for overseeing the design, installation, programming, and servicing of commercial security systems, video surveillance, and access control platforms across Modern Media's project portfolio. This individual will serve as the department's technical authority, lead field crews, interface directly with clients, and contribute to departmental quoting and project estimating. The ideal candidate combines deep hands-on technical expertise with the leadership skills to manage people, projects, and client relationships effectively.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Leadership & Installation
- Lead the installation, programming, commissioning, and servicing of commercial security systems including video surveillance (CCTV/IP), access control, intrusion detection, and intercom systems.
- Serve as the primary technical resource for security and access control platforms across all active projects.
- Supervise, mentor, and direct field technicians, ensuring installations meet manufacturer specifications, industry standards, and applicable Florida licensing requirements.
- Troubleshoot complex system issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions efficiently.
- Coordinate with project managers, general contractors, IT teams, and other trades to ensure smooth project execution.
- Maintain accurate project documentation including as-builts, programming records, device schedules, and service logs.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with Florida Statutes Chapter 489 (Alarm Systems) and applicable NEC and local codes.
- Client Relations
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients throughout the project lifecycle, from pre-installation consultation through post-installation support.
- Conduct system demonstrations and end-user training upon project completion.
- Respond to service requests and client inquiries in a professional and timely manner, maintaining Modern Media's reputation for quality and responsiveness.
- Build and maintain long-term client relationships to support recurring service agreements and future project opportunities.
- Conduct site surveys and security assessments to evaluate client needs and define system scope.
- Prepare detailed project quotes including equipment, labor, licensing, and programming costs using company pricing standards and vendor resources.
- Collaborate with the sales team to develop competitive proposals for new and existing clients.
- Review submittals and ensure specified equipment aligns with project requirements and budget targets.
- Maintain familiarity with current vendor pricing, product lines, and distributor relationships to support accurate and competitive estimating.
- Florida Burglar Alarm Systems Agent (BASA) license or equivalent Florida-recognized alarm licensing - required.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience installing and servicing commercial security, video surveillance, and access control systems.
- Demonstrated experience leading field crews or working in a lead/supervisory capacity.
- Strong working knowledge of IP-based camera systems, NVR/DVR platforms, and video management software (VMS).
- Proficiency with access control system installation, programming, and administration.
- Solid understanding of low-voltage wiring practices, network fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, PoE), and IT infrastructure as it relates to security systems.
- Demonstrated experience in client-facing roles with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, One Drive, SharePoint) for quote preparation and client correspondence.
- Valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check (required for federal and government site access).

- Avigilon (video surveillance and access control)
- Avigilon Alta (cloud-based access control)
- Alula (intrusion detection and remote monitoring)
- Kisi (Access Control)
- Lenel, Genetec, Milestone, or comparable enterprise-class VMS/access platforms
- DMP, DSC, Bosch, or Honeywell intrusion systems
- Feenics, Brivo, or other cloud-based access control platforms
Preferred Qualifications
- Electronic Security Networking Technician (ESNT) certification - NBFAA/ESA.
- Certified Alarm Technician (CAT) Level I or II - ESA/NBFAA.
- Manufacturer certifications from Avigilon, Genetec, Lenel, or comparable platforms.
- Experience with public safety systems, government facilities, or healthcare environments.
- Familiarity with Public Safety DAS systems and low-voltage infrastructure.
- Familiarity with NDAA-compliant camera and access control requirements for federal/government projects.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience with video analytics, LPR (license plate recognition), or AI-based surveillance features.
