Job Duties- Responsible for the installation and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems, as well as food service equipment, and provide on-the-job training to supervised inmates.
- Maintain records on refrigerant use and recovery in compliance with DEP regulations and perform technical preventive maintenance on various HVAC systems.
- Install new electronic, pneumatic, and digital control systems, and diagnose problems with HVAC and closed loop systems.
- Perform tasks related to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building preventive maintenance, and prepare necessary reports as directed by the Maintenance Superintendent.
- Maintain custody and control of supervised inmates, prepare progress reports for their rehabilitation, and participate in required departmental staff training.

- Recently Retired? Beginning July 1, 2024, there is no longer a reemployment limitation; beginning with the 7th calendar month from the member's distribution date, there are no restrictions on working for an FRS employer. - A high school diploma or its equivalent and at least one (1) year of experience in the HVAC field or four or more years of experience in the HVAC field (college or vocational/technical training in one of the above listed trades can substitute for the required experience).
- A valid driver's license is also required.
- Demonstrated support of knowledge, skills, and abilities in the application, education, work experience, work sample, interview, and/or reference checks.
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all applicants to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed prior to start of employment.
