Job Summary

Assist journeyman in the planning, layout, installation, testing and repair of wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, motors, equipment and control systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist journeyman in planning, layout, installation, testing and repair of wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, motors, equipment and control systems per applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.
  • Use appropriate hand tools (e.g., drill, screwdriver) and power tools (pipe threader, conduit bender) to properly assist electrician in measuring, cutting, bending wire and conduit, drilling holes, pulling wiring, and fastening objects.
  • Perform minor repairs such as replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches.
  • Maintain tools and equipment and keep supplies and parts in order; disassemble, repair and reassemble defective electrical equipment such as motors.
  • Load, transport, unload, and furnish electrician with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies as needed.
  • Clean work area and restock supplies and materials as required.
  • Assist installation of related items in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Participate in all safety related processes and programs; engage with the work team to achieve zero injuries.
  • Report accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed.
  • Participate in pre-job work planning and safety discussions; identify and mitigate safety hazards.
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures and attend site‑specific training; maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills; coordinate work with other crafts and co‑workers.
  • Actively participate in on‑the‑job training and mentoring opportunities with co‑workers when provided.
  • Produce quality work meeting requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications, including one‑line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, ladder diagrams, P&'s, and loop diagrams.
  • Visualize two‑dimensional drawings in three dimensions, and assist journeyman in planning, layout, diagram, install, and/or repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment.
  • Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement; notify supervision of hazards and use stop‑work authority as needed.
  • Examine/inspect field conditions; identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost‑saving measures; take corrective actions and report issues to supervision.
  • Operate construction equipment safely and perform daily equipment inspections when certified.
  • Comply with Company Code of Conduct and jobsite policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NCCER Construction Craft Laborer NCCER Core Curriculum or equivalent Craft Training Program.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 4001‑6000 hours (2‑3 years) of experience working as an electrician or similar craft or a combination of experience and training, and a working knowledge of the electrical craft.
  • Familiar with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Must have all necessary licenses for the jurisdiction in which the work is to be performed.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Must have all necessary tools (see Electrician helper tool list).
  • Minimum age 18 years.
  • Must complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (e.g., criminal/civil background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search).
Certifications
  • NCCER Construction Craft Laborer NCCER Core Curriculum or equivalent Craft Training Program.
Physical Demands
  • Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, and move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas.
