This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Century Correctional Institution in the Maintenance Department.
The mission of Facilities Management and Building Construction at the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide a safe, secure, and efficient environment for staff, inmates, and visitors. This is achieved through the effective management, maintenance, and construction of correctional facilities, ensuring they meet all regulatory standards and support the department's overall mission of public safety and rehabilitation.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
Job Duties- Responsible for the installation and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems, as well as food service equipment, and provides on‑the‑job training to supervised inmates.
- Maintains records on refrigerant use and recovery in compliance with DEP regulations and performs technical preventive maintenance on various HVAC systems.
- Installs new electronic, pneumatic, and digital control systems, and diagnoses problems with HVAC and closed loop systems.
- Performs tasks related to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building preventive maintenance, and prepares necessary reports as directed by the Maintenance Superintendent.
- Maintains custody and control of supervised inmates, prepares progress reports for their rehabilitation, and participates in required departmental staff training.

- A high school diploma or its equivalent and at least one (1) year of experience in the HVAC Field OR four or more years of experience in the HVAC Field (College or vocational/technical training in one of the above listed trades can substitute for the required experience).
- A valid driver’s license is also required.
