Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Location: Port Saint Joe
Position Summary
Perform skilled work in the maintenance and repair of a variety of shipyard equipment, vehicles, marine engines, and marine machinery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Regular attendance at work and ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Comply with company, federal, state, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations, and policies while performing duties.
- Perform major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on gasoline, diesel, and marine engines and related marine equipment.
- Perform inspections and preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment; diagnose malfunctions, need for repairs, or adjustments.
- Repair and maintain hydraulic equipment and valves.
- Maintain accurate records on inspections and repairs/maintenance.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
May directly/indirectly supervise/train subordinates.
Requirements- High school diploma or GED equivalence plus three or more years previous heavy equipment repair and maintenance experience required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards desired. Previous shipyard experience desired.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees.
- Knowledge of the safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
- Basic math skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
- Ability to read a tape measure.

Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the workday. Must be able to work above ground at heights of a minimum of 50 feet aloft and/or working from scaffolding and/or man‑lifts while working with machinery;
in confined spaces and withstanding extreme heat and cold.
Exposure to risk of electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, continual loud noise, and other hazards found in a heavy industrial shipyard environment. Rigorous compliance with safety procedures, policies, and personal safety equipment requirements is mandatory.
