Position Overview
The City of Fellsmere is seeking a dependable and hardworking Laborer to join our Public Works Department. This position is an important part of the team that keeps our city clean, safe, and well-maintained. The ideal candidate will enjoy hands-on work outdoors, be willing to learn, and have a strong sense of pride in serving the community.
Key ResponsibilitiesPerform manual labor in the construction, repair, and maintenance of city streets, sidewalks, parks, drainage systems, and stormwater infrastructure.
Assist with stormwater system maintenance, including clearing debris from ditches, swales, culverts, inlets, and storm drains to ensure proper water flow.
Support efforts to reduce flooding by inspecting and maintaining stormwater structures during and after heavy rain events.
Assist equipment operators and skilled workers by supplying tools, moving materials, and completing basic tasks.
Operate hand tools, small power tools, lawn mowers, and other light equipment.
Help with landscaping, mowing, tree trimming, planting, and general groundskeeping in city parks and public areas.
Collect and dispose of trash, debris, and litter from streets and facilities.
Support emergency response efforts, such as storm cleanup, flooding, or roadway hazards.
Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
Valid Florida Driver's License required.
Previous experience in general labor, landscaping, construction, or maintenance is helpful but not required; on-the-job training provided.
Ability to lift to 50 pounds and perform physical work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to work as part of a team.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus for serving our community.
Working Conditions
Outdoor work environment with exposure to heat, rain, and varying weather conditions.
May involve early morning, evening, weekend, or emergency callouts during storms or special events.
Work requires physical stamina, bending, lifting, and standing for long periods.
