The Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is the state authority for substance abuse and mental health services in Florida. The Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 706‑bed, licensed mental health treatment facility providing person‑centered services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities- Install, maintain, and repair various refrigeration equipment including room air conditioners, water coolers, refrigerators, walk‑in coolers, freezers, ice machines, roof‑mounted air handlers, compressors, and large centrifugal chillers.
- Maintain cooling towers, perform water treatment tests, and service heating equipment, pneumatic and electrical controls, mixing boxes, and ductwork.
- Read and interpret blueprints and schematic drawings for installation and repair tasks.
- Perform corrective and preventive maintenance, keeping detailed logs, estimating manpower, equipment, and material needs, and reporting findings to the Trades Supervisor.
- Operate State‑owned vehicles when required for work assignments.
- Repair and maintain laundry equipment such as washers and dryers.
- Store refrigerants safely, maintain a log of all recycled refrigerants, and document their use.
- Work scheduled night service shifts and address additional repairs as requested.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in installing, repairing, and maintaining refrigeration and air‑conditioning units and components.
- Skilled use of hand tools and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic drawings.
- Strong planning, organization, and coordination of work assignments.
- Effective communication and relationship‑building skills.
- Two years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of air‑conditioning and refrigeration systems.
- Vocational or technical training in air‑conditioning and heating mechanics counting as 720 classroom hours per year of required experience.
