Position: Facility Maintenance Technician 1st / 2nd Class
Location: Sumterville

General Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for conducting monthly inspections on corporate facilities and grounds; utilizing preventative maintenance, hands‑on repairs of buildings and maintenance projects; and assist with preparation for the set‑up and cleanup for various cooperative functions, meetings or training.

Facility Maintenance Technician 1st Class Education
  • Minimum:
    High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred:
    Two (2) year associate degree in facility management or related field
  • Preferred:
    Vocational/Technical training certification in construction, carpentry, electrical systems, plumbing and concrete/masonry or a recognized certified trade program.
Experience
  • Minimum:
    Four (4) years progressive experience working in facility maintenance or a related skilled building trade performing general construction, maintenance and repair
  • Preferred:
    Experience with in an electric utility or related industry
Job Specific Competencies
  • Building Systems & Trades Expertise :
    Demonstrates thorough knowledge of general building maintenance, repair, and construction practices, including finish carpentry, electrical wiring, plumbing, HVAC systems, cabinet layout and design, masonry, drywall, surface finishes, cleaning procedures, landscaping, and sprinkler systems.
  • Blueprint Interpretation & Technical Diagnostics :
    Accurately reads and interprets blueprints, drawings, and specifications, and effectively diagnoses and performs repairs on HVAC systems and electrical wiring.
  • Tools & Equipment Proficiency :
    Safely and effectively uses, maintains, and cares for specialized tools and equipment required to perform building and grounds maintenance and repair activities.
  • Technical & Computer Skills :
    Applies basic industrial math skills and demonstrates proficiency in personal computer operations, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and the ability to learn and use applicable corporate software systems.
  • Customer Service & Communication Skills :
    Exhibits strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills, including effective written, verbal, and listening abilities, to interact professionally with employees, management, subcontractors, vendors, and the public.
  • Work Management & Adaptability :
    Works effectively both independently and as part of a team to achieve established goals and meet deadlines; manages stress and changing priorities while multitasking calmly and efficiently in a dynamic work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintenance Request Response & Customer Support
  • Respond promptly to maintenance and repair requests, inquiries, and concerns.
  • Assist employees with adjustment and proper operation of office furniture and related equipment to ensure a safe and functional work environment.
Facility Inspections & Preventive Maintenance
  • Perform monthly inspections of all corporate facilities, grounds, and HVAC systems using established checklists to ensure a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Document inspection results, prepare reports for the Supervisor, and initiate service or maintenance requests for identified deficiencies as directed.
General Maintenance & Repair Services
  • Perform preventive and general maintenance on Cooperative facilities and structures, including minor drywall repairs, painting, door and hardware replacement, office furniture reconfiguration, sprinkler head replacement and adjustment, and routine plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and auxiliary power control system maintenance.
  • Complete maintenance tasks with minimal disruption to employees and daily operations.
Equipment Troubleshooting & Repair
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions using appropriate testing tools.
  • Repair or replace defective equipment or components in accordance with direction and established procedures.
Project Planning & Operational Coordination
  • Assist with planning facility projects and general maintenance schedules to ensure work activities and events remain on track.
