Job Description

Performs a range of routine tasks involving the diagnosis and repair to all District aircraft according to manufacturers' specifications and Federal Aviation regulations. Has completed necessary trade school courses and possesses required FAA Aircraft Mechanic Airframe and Power Plant Certificate. Knowledge of aviation concepts, practices, and procedures, possesses basic tools suitable for maintenance work on aircraft. Works under general supervision.

Some field work is involved when responding to mechanical breakdown calls. Position may involve contact with carbon monoxide and dusts, and materials including waste oils, grease, coolants, acids, adhesives, dirty and greasy parts, and cleaning parts using solvents. Work area is subjected to impact noise. Some segmental vibration to the upper body is caused by the use of impact driven hand tools.

Considerable manual hand turning activity caused by the use of tools.

Hours of operation will generally be from 7am to 4pm, Monday through Friday, but may require occasional extended or weekend hours.

Overtime may be required based on job needs, weather and/ or environmental conditions. Work mostly will be in the hangar, observing and examining machinery and parts in operation to detect malfunctioning or defective units.

Reporting location will be SFWMD Hanger Wellington, Florida

Employment Guidelines

High School Diploma or GED and 4+ years’ experience servicing, diagnosing, overhauling and repairing turbine helicopters. Emphasis on Bell 407 and 206 aircraft, including engine and avionics repairs;
Bell Helicopter factory maintenance training a plus.

The hiring range for this position is $73,652.80 to $95,846.40 (based on education and years of relevant work experience). Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Valid State of Florida Driver's License (Required)

Airframe and Power Plant certification (Required)

Physical Requirements

Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.

Continuous handling, fingering, reaching, standing, stooping, bending (over grill of vehicle to service engine), pushing and pulling to service and repair aircraft components using both manual and power impact wrenches and other tools for loosening or tightening bolts and nuts and often in awkward positions such as working under dashboards. Intermittent kneeling such as with brake work and removing wheels. Manual dexterity is essential to move the hands easily and skillfully with constant placing and turning motions.

Intermittent lifting of tools and parts weighing 10-20 lbs. Intermittent lifting of tires, batteries and cylinder heads weighing up to 50 lbs. Intermittent reclining under equipment on creepers.

The South Florida Water Management District Flight Department employees are required to participate in FAA/DOT drug and alcohol random testing.
