UPS Technician Level

We are seeking a UPS Technician Level 3 or 4 for a permanent position in Tallahassee, Florida. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, and troubleshooting UPS systems, batteries, and critical infrastructure equipment. You will be factory trained in major UPS manufacturers including Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Gutor, APC, MGE, Schneider Electric, and Powerware/Eaton. You will perform preventive maintenance, equipment testing, and emergency service calls for high-profile government, institutional, and commercial customers, with daily travel and independent work structure.

• Maintain, service, and troubleshoot UPS systems, batteries, and associated critical infrastructure equipment.
• Perform battery installation, replacement, and maintenance.
• Conduct preventative maintenance tasks on equipment under contract as scheduled.
• Perform inspections and checks including initial, in-process, visual condition, final inspections, maintenance operational checks, and failure analysis and repairs.
• Examine power electronic systems and their associated controls, including UPS systems, battery systems, Static Transfer Switches, Power Distribution Units, and related controls.
• Ensure systems and components adhere to quality standards established by applicable codes, publications, checklists, and specifications.
• Review and check system drawings and specifications for accuracy and reliability; determine maintenance and inspection requirements and compliance with technical standards.
• Provide technical assistance and expertise regarding power electronic devices to owners and engineers; advise site personnel on proper maintenance practices, procedures, and techniques.
• Perform emergency service calls with 24/7 on-call availability unless on scheduled PTO or off-call status.
• Interface with customers, maintain professional presentation, and provide technical assistance on request.
• Communicate availability status to the corporate office, Team Lead, and Management.
• Coordinate and manage all on-site subcontractors as necessary.
• Use electronic and electrical test equipment including digital multi-meters, power analyzers, infrared cameras, insulation test equipment, EMI/EMF meters, battery test equipment, and oscilloscopes.
• Complete Field Service Reports, Expense Reports, and other required documentation promptly and efficiently.
• Maintain and safeguard company-issued equipment, tools, and proprietary information, manuals, and records.
• Maintain company or personal vehicle in secure and operational condition with required insurance.
• Review and interpret technical documents applicable to inspections, modifications, and maintenance of power electronics.
• Prepare reports of findings and provide recommendations on system improvements and quality control implementation.
• Cross-train other UPS technicians as needed.
• Attend product-specific training as deemed necessary by the company.
• Attend monthly safety and company-scheduled meetings.

• Required
  • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Electrical and/or Electronics from an accredited college or university, or equivalent field or military experience.
  • At least five (5) years of experience with various UPS systems, batteries, test equipment, and associated electrical devices such as switchgears, panels, breakers, disconnects, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), and generators.
  • Accuracy in reading and interpreting complex technical instructions, blueprints, and schematic diagrams.
  • Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), maintenance procedures, and quality control procedures.
  • Ability to assess complex electrical systems, perform damage assessments, estimate maintenance and labor requirements, diagnose malfunctions, and employ testing and inspection methods.
  • Proficiency with laptop computers, various software packages, and electronic communication devices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to lift at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for extended periods.
  • Ability to relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
