Description
The National Security Sector at Leidos is seeking a motivated and talented Software Engineer to join our team on-site at Eglin AFB, FL, in support of the Joint Staff J6 Joint Assessment Division (JAD). This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to system-of-systems interoperability assessments and advance Combined Joint All Domain Command and Control (CJADC2) data‑centricity initiatives. As a JAD Software Engineer, you will work alongside other experienced software engineers, data scientists, and analysts, applying your skills to solve real‑world challenges in a dynamic and impactful environment.
You will contribute to delivering actionable insights to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, directly enhancing Joint Force capabilities.
- Support system engineering life cycle for software and hardware data collection components, including designing, developing, maintaining, testing, and deploying software solutions.
- Write clean, well‑documented, and testable code following established coding standards.
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
- Participate in an agile development environment with sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, and retrospectives.
- Write documentation, including technical specifications and user guides.
- Design and implement database schemas and develop triggers and queries to support analysis.
- Work on automating processes, creating scripts, and improving efficiency of workflows.
- Proactively identify areas for improvement and suggest innovative solutions.
- Research and explore new technologies and create prototypes to demonstrate their potential.
- Interact with customers and functional peer groups to gain cooperation regarding solution design and approaches to operations.
- Web Development:
Building and improving web applications using React for user interfaces. - Backend Development:
Developing and maintaining backend services using C# and MySQL relational databases. - Specialized Data Parsing & Interpretation:
Develop software to parse and interpret data adhering to specific military standards. - Networking and Data Protocol Interfacing:
Design, implement, and test code to interface with different data protocols, such as TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, UDP, gRPC, Serial Communications, and Custom Protocols. - Desktop application development:
Debug or develop new features in standalone Windows desktop applications.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of fundamental programming concepts and data structures.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as C#, Java, C++, or JavaScript.
- Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Postgre
SQL). - Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git.
- Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies.
- Current baseline certification meeting IAT‑2 (e.g. CompTIA Security+)
- Professional writing and oral presentation skills and Microsoft Office proficiency
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
- Capable of lifting 40 lbs.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Experience with web development frameworks, such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
- Experience with cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience with Agile development and software testing methodologies.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals including IP addressing, ports, sockets, and network layers.
- Familiarity with data serialization formats, such as JSON, XML, and Protobuf.
- Experience with data archival and recovery activities
Some experience with APIs and client/server architecture is beneficial.
