Swim Instructor - Barco Newton - YMCA

Position Summary:

Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes.

Essential Functions:

* Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.

* Develops positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance.

* Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.

* Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers members and participants to other programs.

* Maintains records as required (i.e., attendance, progress reports, etc.).

* Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.

* Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.

* Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.

* Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.

* Ensures all First Coast YMCA standards and best practices are implemented and followed.

* Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention.

* Ensures the health and safety of all members/guests.

* Inspect physical space to ensure the safety, orderliness, sanitation and cleanliness of facilities.

* Proficient in 4 of the 6 basic swim strokes but we will try to do them all.

* Front Crawl 25 yards

* Breast Stroke 25 yards

* Side Stroke 25 yards

* Butterfly 25 yards

* Elementary Backstroke 25 yards

* Backstroke 25 yards

* Tread Water for 2 minutes showing proficiency in:

* Whip kick

* Scissor kick

THE YMCA will pay for your certifications

Qualifications:

* Certifications:

CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, O2, First Aid certification.

* Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

* YMCA Swim Instructor certification.

* At least 16 years of age.

* Must pass Level 2 Background Screening. Level 2 is a fingerprint check of state and federal criminal history information conducted through the Florida Department of law Enforcement (FDLE) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Physical Demands:
Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques. Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
