The Work You Will Do

Transportation Monitoring Specialist / Transportation Data and Analytics

The Transportation Monitoring Specialist is responsible for maintaining equipment and materials at traffic monitoring stations, performing routine and annual inspections, and coordinating reconstruction efforts for damaged sites. This role involves identifying and resolving equipment issues, conducting software changes, and performing calibrations at Weigh-In-Motion sites. Additionally, the specialist analyzes data for quality control, assists in setting maintenance priorities, and produces various reports for the Federal Highway Administration.

The position also includes testing new equipment and managing inventory.

Your Specific Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the maintenance of the equipment and materials at the motorized and non-motorized traffic monitoring stations (TMS). Performs routine and annual field inspections/certifications completed by contractors. Coordinates reconstruction of TMS sites that may be damaged by highway construction projects by including them in the project’s construction plans. Identifies potential problems with the equipment, conducts software changes from the field office when possible.

Performs calibrations/validations at Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) sites. Assists in performing review of roadway design plans for construction projects in Engineering Review Comments (ERC) software to determine potential impacts to Continuous Count Station field equipment and ensures inclusion of replacement equipment according to design standard specifications. Monitors field equipment inventory, hardware, and software of various equipment.

Performs data analysis and Quality Control (QC) of the statewide continuous traffic monitoring network for all modal data for: completeness of count, classification, speed, and weight data; performance of existing hardware and software; and needed system modifications. Works with the Supervisor of the Transportation Monitoring System Field Unit to identify problems with the operation of the Continuous Count Station (CCS) field units.
