Position Summary The Transportation Supervisor – 2nd Shift is responsible for overseeing evening transportation and shipping operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely movement of finished goods and materials. This role supports daily transportation activities including routing coordination, carrier communication, trailer movement, shipping execution, and DOT compliance while providing direct supervision to drivers, transportation coordinators, and yard personnel during second shift operations.

The Transportation Supervisor partners closely with warehouse, production, customer service, and logistics teams to maintain service levels, improve operational efficiency, and support food safety and regulatory compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities Transportation Operations & Shift Oversight Supervise second shift transportation activities including shipment coordination, dispatch support, trailer staging, and outbound logistics.

Monitor evening shipping schedules to ensure customer orders are shipped accurately and on time.

Coordinate trailer movements, dock scheduling, freezer logistics, and yard flow.

Support route adjustments and resolve transportation delays or service issues during shift operations.

Ensure transportation documentation is completed accurately and timely.

Team Leadership & Employee Development Supervise, coach, and support drivers, transportation coordinators, and yard personnel on second shift.

Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and operational excellence.

Assist with employee training, onboarding, scheduling, attendance management, and performance feedback.

Communicate shift expectations and operational priorities clearly to team members.

Escalate employee relations, safety, or operational concerns to the Transportation Manager as needed.

Safety & Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, FDA, HACCP, GMP, SQF, Organic, and company safety standards.

Monitor safe work practices and enforce transportation and yard safety procedures.

Assist with transportation audits, inspections, and compliance documentation.

Report accidents, incidents, equipment concerns, and safety risks immediately.

Carrier & Logistics Coordination Communicate with carriers, drivers, warehouse personnel, and internal departments regarding shipment status and scheduling.

Assist with freight coordination and carrier issue resolution.

Support load planning and shipment prioritization to maximize operational efficiency.

Help monitor transportation costs, detention, and service performance.

KPI & Operational Performance Track shift performance metrics including on-time shipments, loading efficiency, trailer utilization, and labor productivity.

Assist the Transportation Manager in identifying process improvement opportunities.

Provide detailed shift turnover communication and operational updates.

Education & Experience High school diploma or GED required;
Associate degree preferred.
3+ years of experience in transportation, warehouse, logistics, or shipping operations.

Previous supervisory or team lead experience preferred.

Experience in food manufacturing, beverage, or cold-chain logistics preferred.
